The Very Special Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition Costs Over $269k In Australia
With $269k, you could buy a couple of Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast EV pickup trucks and still have money to hook your home to a Powerwall station and keep some spare change.
The same amount could net you a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupes or the feistier GT 63 and still have plenty of spare for topping out the gas-guzzling V8. In fact, if you choose an affordable automobile like the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross, Subaru Impreza, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Nissan Kicks, Kia Forte, Honda HR-V, Ford Maverick, Hyundai Elantra, VW Taos, or Hyundai Kona, you could actually buy ten of them in one go.
However, of course, none of them has the panache of the very special Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition – not even the Mercedes-AMG GTs. Back during the first month of summer last year, Mercedes-Benz revealed that it was preparing a ‘Final Edition’ for the Mercedes-Benz G 500 to mark the 30th anniversary of the V8 engine’s introduction to the G series with 1,500 examples up for grabs worldwide.
However, that wasn’t the most exclusive idea they had that day. Instead, the crown went to the Mercedes-AMG G 63 ‘Grand Edition,’ which was even more of a collectible, with just 1,000 units offered for sale across all regions. Fast forward to the final days of March 2024 and the latter has become available in the distant Australia, too. For the Land Down Under, of course, a smaller number of examples are offered with right-hand drive, although Mercedes-AMG doesn’t bother to give us the exact quotation.
On the other hand, they do share the ritzy (sell your arm, leg, and a kidney) MRLP – the manufacturer’s recommended list price is another AUD 50k on top of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 purchase price of AUD 363,561. That equates to AUD 413,561, and we are looking at almost $269,600 at the current exchange rate!
By the way, the MRLP includes things like the GST (goods and services tax) and any LCT (luxury car tax) applicable to the base or standard specification model but excludes all on-road costs like registration fees, stamp duty, CTP, and more. For the cash, though, customers will receive “one of the world’s most instantly recognizable off-roaders, with a lineage tracing back” to 2002 when the first Mercedes-AMG G-Class was introduced and then further back to the release of the original G-Class in 1979. The ‘Grand Edition’ also has a lot of extra goodies to make it stand out in any crowd.
The exterior is adorned in Manufaktur night black magno, has gold-colored details drenched in Kalahari gold magno, and rides on 22-inch AMG-forged alloy wheels styled in tech gold, and there are also gold decals on the body. Inside, the black-and-gold play continues with G Manufaktur black Nappa leather and gold stitching, a golden AMG logo on plaques throughout the cabin, and black floor mats with gold stitching. Additionally, the interior boasts AMG carbon fiber trim, a leather-wrapped dashboard, and an AMG Performance steering wheel with carbon fiber inserts.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition retains its formidable 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 577 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, delivering exhilarating performance both on and off the road.
While the price tag of over $269,000 may seem staggering, it reflects the exclusivity and luxury of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition. With its limited production run, bespoke design elements, and potent performance, it’s sure to turn heads and command attention wherever it goes.
