The All-New Mercedes G550 4×4 Squared: What We Know So Far
The Mercedes G550 4×4 Squared is an all-new car that is set to enter the market in 2023 or 2024. It will be a successor to the Mercedes G550 4×4, which was released in 2017 in the US market. The Mercedes G550 4×4 Squared is bound to be even better than its predecessor and will likely become a favorite among luxury car enthusiasts.
The G550 4×4 Squared
To know what we can expect from the new G550 4×4 Squared, we first need to take a look at its predecessor. The G550 4×4 Squared, originally called the Extreme-G, is the greatly “improved” version of our beloved W-463 G Class. The original G550 4×4 Squared was in production since 2015. came with an even greater off-roading capability than the original G Wagon.
The standard G-Wagon is about 69.5 inches wide, while the G550 4×4 Squared is 82 inches wide, making it one of the widest vehicles on US roads.
The first thing you will notice on the G550 4×4 Squared is the increased ground clearance the G550 4×4 Squared has. A standard G-Wagon has about 9.2 inches of clearance while the G550 4×4 Squared has double that, 18 inches of ground clearance to be exact.
The G550 4×4 squared combines the body of a regular long-base G Class with the portal axles / geared hubs making it one of the few production cars that are equipped with portal axles / geared hubs. The twin-turbo V8 engine, which produced 418 HP, which is the same as in the original G-Wagon, also gave this luxury off-roader the performance of a sportscar.
However, the greatly increased off-roading ability and the sportscar performance came at a cost. The G550 4×4 Squared, which was introduced in the USA in 2017, came with a price tag of $250.000, more than double that of the classic G-Wagon.
The Mercedes G550 is a luxurious SUV that has been on the market since 2015. The all-new Mercedes G550 will enter the market in 2023 or 2024 as a successor to the 2015 Mercedes G550. What We Can Expect
The carbon fiber flared-out fenders, carbon fiber light panel on the top of the truck, and the portable axle are all making a comeback on the new G550 4×4 Squared.
New additions to the G-Wagon are sure to be a more powerful engine, more upgrades for the off-road crowd, and a state-of-the-art MBUX infotainment system which is pretty much standard in all new luxury Mercedes vehicles. A carbon-fiber LED light bar up top and a carbon-fiber-trimmed spare-tire carrier are also going to fulfill the “brawly” look of the car.
We can probably expect an electric version sometime in 2024.

The AMG Version
As always, AMG will offer its own version of the G-Wagon. We recently caught the first glimpse of the new AMG version of the G550 4×4 Squared on a Youtube video by the product manager for the G-Class, Toni Mantele, who gave us some insight into the specs.
The AMG version of the 4×4 squared will have the standard 9-speed automatic with a V8 engine, producing 585 HP. As far as the off-roading capabilities go, the AMG version will have 13.8 inches of ground clearance and a 35.8-inch fording depth. The size of the wheels will be 22 inches.
