Stock Mercedes G500 vs Lifted Mercedes G500

Check out this 2004 Mercedes-Benz G500 next to a 2008 Mercedes-Benz G500 with the DTD 4″ Lift Kit and a G63 Facelift Kit.  As you can see, the 4″ lift kit and 35″ tires make a huge difference!

We posted some photos of our project car and sent it to a few friends that hadn’t seen the car in person.  They said it looked good, but didn’t seem too impressed overall, as we texted back-and-forth.  Some of the comments were, “gotta get the portal kit,” and “you should go higher.”  But a few weeks later, we ran into those same friends at San Clemente Cars ‘n Coffee…their reaction was much different.  After seeing it in person, we heard over and over, “it’s perfect,” “I would just leave it as is.”  So, we did.  Although the idea of adding a portal axle kit definitely entices us (frequently), and since nothing is lost — the lift kit and portal kit are independent of one another — it’s not too difficult to justify.  Anyhow, we took these photos to show the difference — something you couldn’t see in the original post.  A 100mm lift doesn’t sound like much, so you may not realize just how different your car will look, but scroll through the gallery below to get a better idea of the transformation.

The most notable changes on the 2008 G500 are the DTD 4″ lift kit, 35″ tires, DTD fender flares (about 2″ wider than G63 flares), and roof rack, while the G63 facelift updates the overall appearance.  If you have already have a G63, you would just need the 4″ lift kit, 35″ tires, and a 4×4²-style roof spoiler to get the Squared look!  The 2004 G500 will be getting most of the same parts, but we’ll be adding a 4.5″ lift, Mercedes 4×4² carbon fiber fender flares, 22″ wheels, plus front and rear skid plates.

This is the most aggressive option we have before stepping up to the portal axle kit.  Well, we do offer the DynoComp 8″ lift, but that’s in portal axle kit price range, so customers opt for the portal kit instead.  The portal kit lifts the vehicle from the axles down, giving you 5 inches of axle clearance, about 12 inches of width, and the gears in the portal housing are doing the work — not the drivetrain.

At the other end of the spectrum, we have a 2″ lift kit.  You can get the look as the black G500 above, using 33″ tires.  Complete 2″ lift kits start at $1849 with OME shocks.  We recommend the ARB/FOX kit or the ARB/KING kit with 33×12.5R20 tires.
