YAKIMA® – SIDEWINDER ROOF BIKE RACK

Mercedes G Class 2008 also known as a G-wagon, SideWinder Roof Bike Rack for Naked Roof by Yakima®. Now you can get the stability of a fork bike mount rack for a tandem bike with the SideWinder Roof Bike Rack. The SideWinder will hold a tandem more securely than a wheel-tray design, and its swing out skewer arm enables one person to easily load a tandem bike: Just attach the fork and swing the bike into place on the boomtube tray. The SideWinder easily attaches to round and square crossbars with no tools required, and it won’t interfere with most hatchbacks or flip-up rear doors.

A fork bike mount rack provides the most stable form of bike transport because the skewer firmly holds the fork in place, and it will definitely hold a tandem more securely than a wheel tray design. But tandem bikes can be heavy and getting one into position and the fork in the skewer without damage to the bike or vehicle could be a challenge.

The clever engineers at Yakima designed the SideWinder to allow one person to safely and easily mount a tandem bike onto a fork bike mount rack. The game changer is the swing-out skewer arm that allows the fork to be secured while the rear wheel – and the weight of the bike – is resting on the ground. Just loosen the arm and swing the fork base away from the vehicle, immobilize the handlebars with the included handlebar strap, and position the fork in the skewer. Adjust the tensioning knob and close the skewer cover, then raise the bike until the boom tube is resting on the padded cradle. The boomtube is secured to the cradle with pull straps.

The SideWinder is easily attached to round and square crossbars with the included mounts, without the need for tools. The boomtube cradle is raised to position the rear of the bike high enough to clear a hatchback or flip-up rear door. Comprehensive, illustrated installation instructions are included with the SideWinder and it’s backed by a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
