Mercedes G550 4×4² in Solar Beam Yellow with BRABUS Upgrades
The Mercedes G550 4×4², also known as the G550 four-by-four Squared (or just “Squared”), came to the U.S. as a 2017 model. Like other limited production, hard-to-get vehicles, there was immediate demand from existing G-class owners, along with those who thought the G-class needed a more rugged off-road look. Even the media, while acknowledging the absurdity of a vehicle this size, embraced it. We fell in love with it because we always longed for the even-more-impractical 6×6 AMG, but with the high price tag and it’s scarcity (never officially offered in the U.S.), it was out of reach. Relatively speaking, the G550 4×4² is tame. It could fit in a parking spot or two, and school drop off is a breeze (as long as you have a ladder).
Now, about 12 months after we first saw the G550 4×4² in the U.S., production is already coming to an end. Fortunately, we still offer the portal axle conversion and related parts, so customers can emulate the look of the Squared with the same height, same width, same fender flares, and same off-road capability.
Few other vehicles have exploded onto the market the way the G550 4×4² did. In most ways, it’s identical to every other W463 chassis to hit the road over the past couple decades. And that’s good news for Gwagen enthusiasts. Most products from BRABUS, HAMANN, Lorinser, MANSORY, and WALD, that were developed for earlier models, bolt right on to the Squared. Those upgrades include body kits, spoilers, carbon fiber add-ons, leather kits, exhaust, ECU upgrades, and more. Wheels are about the only thing that won’t bolt-on…the G550 4×4² has an 8 x 6.5 bolt pattern, while every other G-class has 5 x 130.
As you would have guessed, BRABUS saw the opportunity and jumped on it. Using their existing product line, BRABUS has developed an extensive list of upgrades for the Squared.

BRABUS has many other parts for the Mercedes G550 4×4² that are not shown here. Other popular parts include BRABUS Electric Side Steps with Valve Control Exhaust and Dark LEDs for the Roof Spoiler. Since the factory LEDs in the Roof Spoiler are not operational on U.S. models, clients replace the entire unit with the BRABUS part. The BRABUS part includes the ballasts and wiring necessary to get the LEDs working.
