Mercedes AMG-65 Run Out Special Edition
Why is the Final Edition so special?
When you are creating a limited edition model to celebrate such a well loved truck, you have to do something special. This is AMG’s last hurrah for the original G-Class. Let’s see if it’s worthy of the AMG badge.
Exterior
First, we’ll start with the engine. AMG opted to use the M279, a twin-turbo, 6.0 liter V12 belching out a whopping 612 horsepower and a tarmac distorting 738 pound-feet of torque. The AMG Press release states that this engine has multi-spark ignition technology and a “particularly effective” engine management system. This results in optimal combustion, maximum efficiency and smooth power delivery. Mated to the engine is one of the bullet proof AMG Speedshift Plus 7G‑TRONIC seven speed auto boxes.
The M279 pushes the Final Edition to an electronically limited top speed of 143mph and a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds. These figures are impressive when you consider the size and weight of the G Wagen, plus the fact it is AWD. You wouldn’t want to go any faster in a vehicle that can still eat up off-road trails.
To give the Final Edition a touch of class, Mercedes contrasted it’s Obsidian black paint with bronze accessories. Apart from the handful of bronze parts, AMG painted almost everything black, including the tailpipes and running boards. The G65 rides on bronze 21 inch five-twin-spoke alloys, behind which you’ll notice giant AMG performance callipers and rotors. The bronze steering guard compliments the grille surrounds. Running down the lower sill are “Sport trim” graphics. The styling is tasteful and low-key.
Interior
Interior appointments are luxurious and of the highest quality. Seats have been trimmed in an exclusive black Nappa leather and feature large bolsters to give the occupant a secure ride. The driving experience is made even more comfortable thanks to the multi-contour, climate controlled seats. Carbon fiber trim pieces are scattered through out the dashboard and all stitching is done in a contrasting bronze color. The classic G-Wagen grab handle has a Final Edition badge. Even the floor matts tie into the unique color scheme. Of course, the steering wheel is an AMG performance wheel, wrapped with matching Nappa leather.
