Mansory G Class WIDE Series – The Finest of the Fine
If you’ve cracked open an automotive magazine or read about exotic cars on the internet within the last 20 years, it’s likely that you will have come across coverage of German-based tuner Mansory. A statement like this is difficult to make with absolute objectivity, but if any company could lay claim to making the most exclusive, desirable, and ostentatious custom car creations in the world, it very well could be them. Known for their incredibly posh custom interiors and wild, aggressive restylings of already high-end luxury cars, Mansory has received much media attention for their takes on Bugattis, Rolls-Royces, and Lamborghinis, among many others. They are cars made for the top 1% of the 1%. While
Mansory’s “WIDE” program is the ultimate in bespoke tailoring for your G Class, and as the name would suggest, it is largely focused around a wide body kit for the Mercedes. In addition to the standard upgrades that come with every body kit, Mansory naturally provides a whole host of other options to personalize your G Wagon exactly the way that you want it. The WIDE styling also serves as the canvas to further hyper-coveted G Wagons, such as the Mansory Gronos. Let’s take a look at some of the elements that go into making the Mansory WIDE G Wagons some of the best in the world.
Standard Features
Each WIDE G Class comes with a base set of enhancements for the exterior of the vehicle. Fifteen separate side panels are replaced on the vehicle, as well as the front and rear bumpers. In the front, you’ll also receive LED lighting upgrades and a large rear diffuser. Everything that can be carbon fiber is, and some pieces come with or without a clear clear coat for just the right look. Overall, the base WIDE body kit presents a great jumping-off point by itself, and enthusiasts will immediately recognize the iconic Mansory styling cues carried throughout the exterior.
In addition to the numerous cosmetic upgrades, Mansory has also completely refreshed the twin-turbo V8. Most notably, a new full exhaust system helps the motor breathe better than the factory item, and fully brings to life the iconic rumble of these German motors.
The Add-Ons
While the standard body kit is certainly a world-class way to spice up your G Class by itself, the plethora of options available over the standard kit is where the WIDE program really starts to shine. As said before, almost every single OEM piece on the G Wagon can be replaced by those from Mansory. They give you a handful of options for nearly everything on the vehicle, from the exact look of the grille, to the hood ornament, to the look of the horizontal bar atop the front bumper, just to name a few. Two great-looking hoods are available to choose from, and three different roof covers can be selected with different combinations of LED running and auxiliary lights.
Custom carbon fiber door handles, trim covers, mirrors, vents, and lighting housings can all be added on, and you can even select a spare tire cover with an illuminated Mansory logo, in case your G Wagon was looking a little too subtle for you. Mansory also offers a wide variety of in-house wheels to choose from – we counted nine separate styles in a variety of different sizes, ranging from 21” to 23”.
Interior Customizations
The heavy carbon fiber look is carried over to the interior options as well. Hand brake levers, console trim pieces, and door pulls can all be replaced with the Mansory carbon fiber options, and “entrance panels” (which most might know as kick plates) are available with the Mansory logo. All of the carpeting can be replaced with individualized pieces that pair well with the diamond-quilted leather.
As Mansory has their own interior shop, the sky is really the limit here. They’ve done monogrammed interiors, full-on custom color leather interiors, and can provide literally whatever the customer may want.
Proprietary Suspension
While the production G Class obviously has ample off-road capability baked into its DNA, the Mansory WIDE customizations are definitely geared more towards making the platform a mean machine for the streets. To that end, Mansory has actually developed their own electronically-controllable retrofit suspension, which they manufacture themselves in Germany. The entire suspension consists of the control module, a new button installed in the cabin, lowered springs, and the “Dynamic Damping Control Coilovers.” This suspension package allows drivers to cycle between one Comfort and two Sport driving settings, based on road conditions and how enthusiastic they would like to drive at any given point. At the end of the day, you can expect to sit about an inch and a half lower than stock. What’s also great about this kit, aside from the high overall quality, is that it can also be installed at any Mansory dealer separate from any other modification package. So, if the aesthetics of the WIDE body kit aren’t to your liking or you don’t want to splurge on the whole kit, you can still have this trick suspension package installed on your G Wagon, and with a five-year warranty to boot.
A WIDE Look at the Mansory G Class
As you can see, Mansory’s WIDE program for the Mercedes G Class is so extensive it is almost mind-boggling. Only a few other aftermarkets on earth (namely Brabus) are able to compete with the depth and breadth of what Mansory is able to do to the G Class platform. While they might be flashy (too flashy for some), the joy of owning one isn’t simply skin deep; they maintain the highest levels of build quality and craftsmanship to ensure your investment lasts for generations to come. For those who appreciate seeking out only the finest things that money can buy and would like a daily driver of the same ilk, consider seeking out a Mansory WIDE G Class. The rest will be history.
