Custom Build: Mercedes G63 AMG Portal Axle Conversion
Mercedes G63 AMG Conversion Uses Portal Axles Like the G550 4×4 and 6×6 AMG
All you need is the 1) portal axle conversion, 2) fender flares, 3) roof light bar, and 4) 35″ tires on the stock wheels to get the 4×4 Squared look! However, if you want to run 37″ tires with beadlock wheels to emulate the 4×4 shown in Mercedes’ advertising, then you would need a 2″ lift, as well. And to sit at roughly the same height as the 4×4 Squared, you need to add a 4” lift kit, in conjunction with the portal axle conversion. The portal axles give the vehicle more ground clearance (~4″) and a much wider stance (hence the massive fender flares), plus you get another 3″ of ground clearance from the 37″ tires.

The client is also considering a new interior with all black leather and black diamond stitching (not the red leather shown here). G-class owners call us wanting to add diamond stitching, get rid of the “pleated” leather in their vehicle, or change the color all together. The dash, doors, and headliner are often black, but they want to get rid of their tan or grey leather. The leather kit includes front seats, front headrests, rear seats, rear headrests, door panels, and the tailgate panel. You can add the armrest, and if we have the car here, we can wrap the dash, replace the carpeting, and refinish the headliner in Alcantara (if your vehicle doesn’t already have it).
