BRABUS Gets Its Hands on the 2019 Mercedes G-class
This is a big deal. The 2019 Mercedes G-class gets a major overhaul; the first one 28 years or more. Originally launched in 1979, the Geländewagen (Gwagen for short) has become an icon. It’s unique styling, off-road capability, and exclusivity has garnered a huge following. The aftermarket noticed when the car first arrived in the U.S. back in 2002, and ever since, more and more tuners have developed products for the Gwagen.
One of those tuners is BRABUS based in Bottrop, Germany. BRABUS has been combining power and luxury to create some of the most noteworthy vehicles in our industry since 1977, and the new Gwagen is no exception. BRABUS typically adds subtle styling, lots of power, larger wheels, and more recently, lots of carbon fiber. As expected, the world renowned German tuner has already rolled out some amazing products for the new 2019 Mercedes G550.
The new G550 gets Mercedes’ 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine, which is a great platform, because it’s easy to make more power. BRABUS uses a plug-n-play performance module to increase horsepower from 416 to 493, while torque jumps from 450 to 524 LB-FT. With the extra power, the 5,500 pound brute can sprint from 0-62 mph in a respectable 5.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph.
The exterior gets a number of styling enhancements. Starting up front and move toward the rear, you’ll notice a new Front Grille with the BRABUS “B” Emblem, Front Lip Spoiler with LEDs and Illuminated “B” Logos, Carbon Fiber Hood Attachment, 23″ Platinum Edition Forged Wheels, a low profile Carbon Fiber Roof Spoiler with LEDs, and a Carbon Fiber Rear Wing. Inside, small touches are added to personalize the interior. For example, Illuminated Door Sills, Aluminum Pedal Kit, Floor Mats with the BRABUS Logo, Aluminum Door Pins, and a Cargo Mat with the BRABUS Logo. Custom upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and more are available upon request.
We are told BRABUS will be offering it’s popular valve-controlled sport exhaust with dual stainless steel side exit tips on each side. On the previous models, the driver would use the up/down arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel to open and close the exhaust valve, thereby controlling the sound at the push of a button.
BRABUS will most likely be making many more parts for the vehicle, particularly once the 2019 Mercedes G63 hits the market. Stay tuned!
