2022 Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Edition 55”

This special edition celebrates AMG’s 55 anniversary

AMG was founded as a racing engine forge in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz’s engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. Over the years, AMG enjoyed huge success, and in 1993 it became the high-profile purveyor of modified Mercedes-Benz cars.

The G-Class has enjoyed a unique position in the AMG portfolio for a long time, so, it should come as no surprise that one of the special editions launched to celebrate AMG’s 55 anniversary is based on the AMG G63.

It will be available for order starting now until October 2022, and AMG promises more surprises on the way.

WHAT MAKES THE 2022 MERCEDES-AMG G 63 “EDITION 55” SPECIAL?

For the G63 “Edition 55” Mercedes is offering only a choice of two exterior colors: Obsidian Black Metallic or G Manufaktur Opalite White Bright. The car rides on a special set of 22‑inch AMG forged wheels in a cross-spoke design and finished in a cool contrasting matt tantalum grey paint. The exterior also gets special AMG logo, AMG rhombus, and the fuel filler cap finished in silver chrome. The model will also be equipped with the AMG Night Package and the AMG Night package II that will give a high-gloss black finish to select exterior elements.

For the interior, Mercedes opted for a combination of contrasting black and red, with stainless steel and matte carbon adding even more contrast. The AMG seats are trimmed in red and black Nappa leather, the black AMG floor mats feature red “Edition 55” lettering, while the AMG Performance steering wheel features the same anniversary “AMG” and “55” badges.

No changes were announced under the hood, which means the Edition 55 will be offered with the same 4.0-liter, Biturbo V-8 engine that delivers 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. It will go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and have a top speed of 137 mph.

The price for the “Edition 55” package is €17,850 – which, of course, does not include the €136,725 price for the standard Mercedes-AMG G63.
